Creating a QR Code Challenge

Note: This feature is available to Project Owners and Project Administrators on the Admin Dashboard.A QR 

QR Code Challenges are ideal for activities that require Players to visit a physical location, check in at an event, complete a treasure hunt, or unlock content by scanning a QR Code.

QR Code Challenge is supported on both the web platform and the Gametize mobile app. The following platform limitations apply:

  • iOS (Web): Supported only in Safari
  • Android (Web): Supported in all major browsers
  • Desktop (Web): Supported in all major browsers using a webcam or compatible camera device

To create the QR Challenge:

  1. Sign in to your Administrator account at https://gametize.com/signin.
  2. Select the Project, then the Topic where you want to create the Content.
  3. On the Topic Manager page, locate and click on "+ New Content".
  4. Select the Challenges in the pop-up panel.
  5. Select "QR CODE CHALLENGE".
  6. Fill in the necessary details that describe the Challenge.
    • Upload a Content Image. Alternatively, select an image from the Gametize Image Library or Pixabay Image Library.
      • Toggle the button to enable or disable showing the featured image at the bottom of the Content screen.
    • Enter a Content Title.
    • Add a Content Description, if needed.
    • Embed External Media, if needed.
    • Add the content to a Content Category, if needed.
  7. Configure any Advanced Settings, if required.
    1. Points Settings - for completions, votes, speed points, and team bonus points
    2. Content Frequency - how often Players can complete the Challenge 
    3. Activating Time Delay before completions are allowed
    4. Activating Maximum Completions allowable in a Content
    5. Scheduling the Content to publish or expire
    6. Insert post-completion message
    7. Locking the Content
    8. Adding Event Details for a Content
    9. Embedding a Map
    10. Send notifications to Players about the newly created Content
  8. Click "Save Details" to create the Challenge.

Retrieve the QR Code

After creating the Challenge, retrieve the QR Code before distributing it to Players.

  1. Locate the QR Code Challenge.
  2. Click Get QR Code.
  3. Download or print the QR Code for use.

Some special things about QR Code Challenge:

  • Every QR Code Challenge generates its own unique QR Code.
  • The QR Code can only be retrieved after the Challenge has been created successfully.
  • Players must allow camera access on their device to scan the QR Code. 
  • Players must have an active internet connection to scan the QR Code and complete the Challenge successfully.

  • For the best scanning experience:

    • Print or display the QR Code clearly.
    • Use a high-resolution QR Code image.
    • Ensure there is sufficient contrast between the QR Code and its background.
    • Avoid displaying QR Codes on reflective surfaces.
    • Print QR Codes at an appropriate size for the expected scanning distance.
  • If your QR Code needs to be replaced, you can generate a new one without creating a new Challenge by using Regenerate QR Code. The previous QR Code will no longer work after regeneration.
