Rewards and Achievements are both used to motivate Players, but they work differently.
Rewards are items or benefits that Players can redeem using the points they have earned in a Project. Achievements are badges that Players unlock by meeting specific criteria set by Project Administrators.
Rewards
Rewards are items, benefits, or incentives that Players can redeem from the Reward Store using their accumulated points.
Use Rewards when you want Players to spend points on something they can claim, collect, or receive.
Examples of Rewards include:
- A voucher
- A physical gift
- A digital item
- Access to a benefit
- A prize that requires collection
Players can choose which available Rewards they want to redeem, as long as they have enough points and meet the Reward’s redemption rules.
Achievements
Achievements are badges that Players or Teams unlock after completing a specific action or meeting a defined rule.
Use Achievements when you want to recognise progress, milestones, or accomplishments.
Examples of Achievements include:
- Completing a certain number of Challenges
- Earning a certain number of points
- Completing a specific action
- Reaching a milestone as a Player or Team
- Receiving a badge manually from an Administrator
Unlike Rewards, Achievements are not redeemed from a store. Players or Teams must meet the Achievement criteria before the badge is unlocked, unless an Administrator awards it manually.
How to choose between Rewards and Achievements
- Use Rewards if Players should spend points to redeem something.
- Example: A Player earns 500 points and redeems a coffee voucher.
- Use Achievements if Players or Teams should unlock a badge after meeting specific criteria.
- Example: A Player completes 10 Challenges and unlocks a “Challenge Champion” badge.
- Use Rewards if the item has limited quantity, collection steps, voucher codes, or redemption rules.
- Example: Only 50 Players can redeem a limited-edition item.
- Use Achievements if the goal is recognition rather than redemption.
- Example: A Team unlocks a badge after completing a shared milestone.
