How to recreate conditional logic using Gametize Challenges?
We design gamification with simplicity in mind. Individual components with little dependency on each other, allowing you to piece them together however you like. Still, we see the value in conditional, which creates a custom path based on a Player’s selection. Stick with us, and we will explore how we can make use of various Challenge types in Gametize to recreate such conditional logic!
Before you log in to your Admin Dashboard and start creating those Challenges, start designing your conditional logic on pen and paper.
- Start with the questions you would like to ask
- Write down the possible options
- Map out how the outcome branches would look like
Now, time to get down to business.
STEP 1: Create the 1st question as a Single-Selection Poll Challenge.
- Go on to create poll options according to what you have written down
-
[critical] Customize the message for the options. For the option that will allow the Player to continue further in the conditional logic, include a password*.
*You will find out in Step 2 what the password does :)
Why Single-Selection Poll Challenge? This Challenge allows you to input custom post-submission message depending on the poll option chosen by the Player. In other words, if you design 10 options, you can have 10 different messages!
While Quiz Challenges allow you to input specific feedback messages depending on the right or wrong option chosen, it is less than ideal. Poll Challenge allows a more neutral approach.
STEP 2: Create a Fixed Answer/Passcode Challenge - this is a transition Challenge
- Make the password*, which you have included in the message for the selected poll option, as the answer
- Include instructions in the Challenge description to enter the password as the answer
- Players who have selected that particular poll option will hence be able to complete the Challenge and continue with the other Challenges
Why Fixed Answer/Passcode Challenge? Firstly, it aligns with the narrative - entering a password. More importantly, this Challenge type requires Players to insert the specific word. Hence, only the Players who know will be able to complete.
If you would like to pair it with some offline activity (e.g. during an event or roadshow), you can make use of the QR Code Challenge. The QR Code Challenge requires you to print the QR code and distribute it to the Players to scan before they can complete the Challenge. In this case, rather than revealing the password, you can reveal the location of the QR Code.
STEP 3: Create the 2nd question, which is also the final question
- Go on to pick and choose any Challenge type which is suitable for the question.
- Since the options been narrowed, we would go with a Single- or Multiple-Selection Poll Challenge^.
- [critical] Lock this Challenge, so that it can only be unlocked when the Players complete the Passcode/Fixed Answer Challenge designed in STEP 2.
^If you would like to have different sub-questions, you can explore the Custom Form Challenge which has different field types that you can play with - text, numbers, multiple choice, time and date.
Why the Challenge type does not matter? In this example, the conditional logic only involves 2 tiers. Therefore, in this final question, the Player’s choices in the Challenge will not affect any subsequent Challenges.
If you’ve got more tiers in your conditional logic? If you’ve got more leading questions before the final one, do design your leading questions as Single-Selection Poll Challenges using a similar set up in STEP 1.
Why is locking the Challenge critical? Locking the Challenge and selecting the Challenge to unlock it ensures that Players who did not have the given password (i.e. those who should have ended earlier in the conditional logic) do not see this question.
Confused? Don’t worry, the diagram below should give you a good overview!
While the Gametize platform may not have all the functions or features that fulfill your needs. But, as long as you tell us your objective, we can always put together different components and give them a twist to achieve it. This is where the fun of gamification comes, isn’t it? So, fire your thoughts, and challenge us to make them happen!
