Uploading Backgrounds in the Project Customizer

Note: This feature is available to Project Owners and Project Administrators

Use the Project Customizer to upload custom background images for your Project page and Topic List area. This helps match your Project’s appearance to your brand across web and mobile views.

This article will cover the following:

How to Upload a Project Background

  1. From the Admin Dashboard, select the Project you want to customize.
  2. Click Project Tools and select Project Customizer.
  3. Under Project Background, click the thumbnail to launch the image selector.
  4. Click "Upload New Image" , select an image from your local drive, then click "Set Image".
  5. Click on "Save Changes".

Requirements for Project Background

Your Project Background image must meet the following requirements:

  • Aspect ratio: 1:2, at least 640px width and 1280px height
  • Accepted file types: JPG, PNG, or GIF
  • Filename: must not contain special characters, such as &, #, or %
  • Maximum file size: 1.5 MB
  • Recommended file size: below 500 KB for optimal loading

Do note this is a recommended guide and the actual background image may render differently on some screen sizes.

How to upload a Topic List Background

A Topic List Background appears behind the list of Topics in your Project.

  1. Within the same Project Customizer page, click on "More Background Settings" under "Project Background".
  2. You will see the section to upload a Topic List Background as follows.
     
  3. Click on Change to launch the image selector. 
  4. Click "Upload New Image" , select an image from your local drive, then click "Set Image".
  5. Click on Save Changes.

Recommended image dimensions for the Topic List Background

This background image will appear center-cropped in portrait orientation on mobile devices, and landscape orientation on desktop screens.

The design and pattern of your uploaded background image should be generic enough to support both orientations.

Your Topic List Background image must meet the following requirements:

  • Aspect Ratio: 800 px by 800 px (Non-square images may be cropped or resized upon display.)
  • Accepted file types: JPG, PNG, or GIF
  • Filename: must not contain special characters, such as &, #, or %
  • Maximum file size: 1.5 MB
  • Recommended file size: below 500 KB for optimal loading

Do note this is a recommended guide and the actual background image may render differently on some screen sizes.

 

TIP: Use a background image that can work well in both portrait and landscape orientations. We recommend using a subtle background pattern so it does not distract from your content.
